Christchurch Yacht Club

Description

Sailing from Monck’s Bay since 1891, Christchurch Yacht Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country.

Members past and present provide a roll-call of world-class yachties including New Zealand’s first sailing Olympic Gold Medallists Peter Mander and Jack Cropp in 1956 and Leslie Egnot, Barcelona 1992 – Silver.

With its distinctive historic clubhouse past Redcliffs on the road to Sumner, CYC has access to the water at all states of the tide and enjoys sailing areas both on the Estuary and over the bar into Sumner Bay. Low tide sailing by the beach at Shag Rock is particularly popular.

CYC has strong fleets of Zephyrs and Lasers supported by a growing fleet of juniors sailing Optimists, Open Skiff, P class and Starlings – all positively encouraged.

Our active keeler fleet benefits from mooring and slipway facilities adjacent to the club. New members and families are always welcome, with learn-to-sail and junior coaching programmes available throughout the season.

The club runs a Learn 2 Sail programme in the first half of the season for sailors generally aged 9/10 and upwards, booking is essential register your interest at info@cyc.net.nz – don’t delay. For more information, please contact the Commodore or any committee member.
